MyNokiaBlog has confirmed that although the USA may not get future Symbian devices, new purchases of existing models are now shipping with the latest version of Symbian. Those looking for an N8, E7, C7 or C6-01 should find their new phone has the long awaited update including the new browser, portrait QWERTY, smoother scrolling between home-screen pages and various other enhancements. Amazon currently listing them new at $379
How much longer until the update is available for owners of those devices we are still not sure. However, Nokia did say they would have it available during August.
However, hole an updated N8 may be tempting, there may be more tempting things on the horizon. It sounds like it won’t be long before Symbian Belle devices are available, and then there is also the N9.
The N9 is not officially available on the UK, Germany or the USA, yet it is becoming clear that they won’t be too hard to come by. We are starting to see ship dates and prices. So the latest places to have an N9 page are:
Expansys – Preorder now. No price or ship date yet, but if you do pre-order, you won’t be charged until it ships and when it’s ready to ship you will be asked to confirm the purchase. This makes it fairly risk-free.
Amazon (Marketplace) – $500 for 16GB, $650 for 64GB – shipping September 23rd
Efastshopping – $330, for those willing to take a risk (efastshopping seems legit as a marketplace, but I wouldn’t trust this seller)
MyNokiaBlog mentions other places to get it here.
