Today Engadget reported that in a response to a question from them, Nokia said the N9 is not coming to the USA. I suppose this news was widely anticipated and expected, but we all wanted to hope this wouldn’t be the case. Here’s the quote from Engadget:
“After the very positive reception to the launch of the Nokia N9, the product is now being rolled out in countries around the world. At this time we will not be making it available in the US. Nokia takes a market by market approach to product rollout, and each country makes its own decisions about which products to introduce from those available. Decisions are based on an assessment of existing and upcoming products that make up Nokia’s extensive product portfolio and the best way in which to address local market opportunities.”
However, the words “At this time” have lead some bloggers to suspect it will come and other to say we should be able to get it via Amazon, eBay and other online stores, but not to expect any carrier support. And it’s not like that is any kind of new situation for people who like to buy Nokia devices.
Meanwhile, MyNokiaBlog reports that a third UK retailer has indicated they will sell it, and indicated a price – MobileFun has joined Play and Expansys to indicate they will offer the device. Price at MobileFun is 519.95GBP, though Play and Expansys haven’t listed a price yet.
