Create 4 millions app contest launched

Nokia today has launched a new app contest called Create 4 Millions.  They are looking for both people with ideas for apps, and developers to send in fully developed apps.  The best ideas and apps will win prizes.  The deadline in both competitions is September 20th 2011, which is 3 months away – a decent bit of time to dream up and create so inventive and useful applications.

There are 3 categories used for this competition for those submitting an idea for an app and they are:

  • Health and Education
  • Social Networking and Location
  • Games and Infotainment

Something I would also bear in mind is that

We’re looking for app ideas, which would add value and depth to the lives of people — especially to those in emerging growth economies.

Those judged to have the 3 best ideas will see their app developed, and win a trip to Nokia World 2011, plus a new Nokia dual-SIM handset.  You can see all the details at this page of the Nokia Ideas Project website.

They are looking for a bit more here, but the prizes are better too, much better.  Fancy 50,000 Euro’s? Or perhaps the idea of having Nokia channels promote your app, or getting some UI consultation from Nokia and banner advertising on the web.

Well, to do the first two of these you have to have the best app in the contest, but there are 10 cash prizes here, including 25,000 Euro prizes for the best app in each of the 4 categories below:

  • In the Know
  • Fun and Games
  • Emotional Closeness
  • Access to Knowledge

There are 3 special prizes, 2 of 25,000 Euro’s for the best use of Maps/Location API and the best touch feature, and a 50,000 Euro prize for best web app, and this will be promoted in the browser start page in Series 40 phones in appropriate countries. Apparently there may also be additional prizes which vary based on your local market.

For those creating Java apps, you are asked to use the Nokia SDK 1.0 Beta for Java. Web or Java app, you need to get your app submitted to the Ovi Store and complete the contest registration providing Nokia with a valid URL to the app, a demo video and your contact info.

The Nokia Developer website has this Create 4 Millions page with the rest of the info you need. Good Luck.

About bluechrism

I am a software developer with most professional experience in the Windows .Net realm and I'm currently a WPF developer with Starkey Labs. However, I have wanted for some time to start the mobile developer journey properly and being an N900 owner, this was to be in the realm of QT. Job hunting, moving to Minnesota and changing jobs put my plans on hold 6-12 months but things are starting to settle now, just as I'm getting sorted to start some things, Microsoft and Nokia merge. This blog is about my novice mobile development experiences and hopefully will end up complete with links to download some apps on various platforms, but obviously by the name, Sybian, Maemo/Meego and Windows Mobile. In other stuff, I am English, I support Everton FC, I have visited Glastonbury music festival 5 times and recommend it to anyone. I am married and my wife and i have a dog called Friday.
