A closer look at the Lumia 920 shell and more

When I got home from work today, I was pleasantly surprised to find a delivery had arrived from @NokiaConnects – A shiny box with the words Lumia 920 on it.

Inside it had information about the camera, shell and glass used along with samples of those parts.

The shell, when away from all the other parts that make up the phone, is a little more flexible, but still feels strong. You can see the holes for the buttons in the side, as well as the speaker grills and micro USB at the base, and the SIM card and headphone jack at the top.  There are two other holes in the shell and they are for the camera lens and flash.

Size wise it feels on the big side, for me anyway. I feel like it would be a stretch for my thumb to tap the top left corner and the bottom right without having to adjust my hand position to do so. You can get a feel for the size here, with my N9 inside it.

As for the other parts, its hard for me to say much. I can’t tell if the camera module has any particular interesting feature externally, compared with any others because I just don’t know what to look for. The card with it talks up the accuracy of the lens and low light performance.

There is a sheet of Gorilla Glass in there too.  It’s not screen shaped or anything, just a square of glass.  I don’t have anything to measure the thickness but looks to be around 0.5mm to me. Feels strong and sturdy as it should.

About bluechrism

I am a software developer with most professional experience in the Windows .Net realm and I'm currently a WPF developer with Starkey Labs. However, I have wanted for some time to start the mobile developer journey properly and being an N900 owner, this was to be in the realm of QT. Job hunting, moving to Minnesota and changing jobs put my plans on hold 6-12 months but things are starting to settle now, just as I'm getting sorted to start some things, Microsoft and Nokia merge. This blog is about my novice mobile development experiences and hopefully will end up complete with links to download some apps on various platforms, but obviously by the name, Sybian, Maemo/Meego and Windows Mobile. In other stuff, I am English, I support Everton FC, I have visited Glastonbury music festival 5 times and recommend it to anyone. I am married and my wife and i have a dog called Friday.
